Happy spring everyone!!

Note: first veggie pickup of the season is Saturday, April 5..just a little over a week from today!! Please take a few minutes to sign up if you haven't already!!

Our first week of spring was pretty pleasant..up until yesterday afternoon!! The wind started picking up about one and increased through the evening..anything that wasn't nailed down is in Delta or beyond. It rained just a bit between about ten and midnight..was dry and cloudy at six this morning..the sometime between then and 7:30 we got just a skiff of snow. Mostly cloudy most of the day, but fairly pleasant for working outdoors until about two when the wind picked up and it decided to snow some more. Right now it looks like it may be clearing, but feels mighty chilly!! Tomorrow is supposed to be another glorious sunshiny day!!

This week I kicked most of the alliums and the early kohlrabi out to the hardening off bench. We covered them last night just in case it got cold..looks like we may be able to get started planting them outdoors in the next couple of days. This morning we fertilized the artichokes, celery, parsley, and greens and kicked them out to the honey house. Need to make room for peppers, eggplant, broccoli, and cauliflower after I get them pricked up. I started another succession of lettuces and the late cabbages..they are already coming up!! According to my calendar, I need to start the cucumbers for the high tunnel this week..where did March go??

In the tunnel..well there doesn't seem t be much room left!! have a couple nooks and crannies, but need to leave them for those cucumbers!! the salad and beta greens and radishes I just planted are not up yet, but I am sure they will be shooting up with the next sunny day!! Mostly we have been weeding, watering and just watching everything grow this week!!

Outdoors is waking up fast!! Peas and favas are not up yet, but the seeds are starting to sprout.{ok, so I got ansty and went a dug down to the seeds to see what they were doing!! We have gotten a lot done out in the fields this week...Have beds ready for alliums, kohlrabis, cabbages, beets, carrots, turnips, radishes, and salad greens..now we just have to see how much we can get planted!! We also spent a good bit of time revamping the vegetable shed{where we sort, bunch, rinse, and do whatever we need to get your veggies ready for you after we harvest them}. We just need more space for everyone to work so we are adding an annex to the annex that we added to the veggie shed..confused. yet?? We are not done with that project, but it is coming along.

Updates on our little birdie friends. Well the geese are ready to lay, but not quite ready to set..they are still thinking about it. Soooo, some critter raided the nest and ate the eggs...The geesies are NOT happy about it!! Della thinks that as soon as the geese are ready to set and stay on the nest at night the critter problem will go away some.  Bandit is starting to look better..more feathers..less winter underwear sticking out..still has the big feet, wart on his nose, and the mohawk!! Della says that Kiera{the much smaller, prettier, feminine version of Bandit} is sitting on her lap now to eat her meal worm treats..I don't know..Do we really need a lap duck? Baby chickies will be 3 weeks old on Monday..they are growing rapidly and getting feathers. Mom has been "picking" them choice little bit of green stuff as she weeds in the high tunnel. I think they are mostly playing with the weeds at this point..for some reason their "mommies" just are having a hard time showing them how to eat them!!

note: we do have chicken and duck eggs for sale here at the farm..chicken eggs are $4.00 and Duck eggs are $6.00. Just give us a call..249-9725..to pick some
