Happy Solstice!!

Note: time for a payment if you haven't done it already!! Thanks!!

!!!!!Special, special note: Once again we are working with Ela Family Farms in Hotchkiss to bring you the option of a fruit share. This year we will be able to offer a nine week fruit share with peaches, pears, and apples{in their season}{about 58 lbs of fruit total}. The cost is $150. Ela,s is requesting that we have at least 20 shares to make it worth their time and effort to deliver it to us each week. I need to know before July 4th if you are interested..I need payment before July 10th. Please read the information from Ela's at the end of this update. Sorry for the lousy formatting..at least this week I got it to copy here!!

Well, we haven't noticed the days getting any shorter..just hotter!! Our highs have ranged from 89-92 this week..with just a few happy little clouds coming in about the time we are ready to get out of the field before we melt down. Our lows have been in the low 50's..which will be good for our warm season goodies.

In the tunnels..The scenery has totally changed!! Have good news and bad news..the good news..we picked our first cucumber and our first tomato this week..the bad news..we ate them.{try splitting a small cuc 8 or 9 ways} Even better news is that that cuc has many friends growing bigger by the minute..the tomato has many friends set..still very green but getting bigger!!

Outdoors..Planting frenzy is done..whew!! Just 5 more beds to plant with fall season goodies and there will be no more room at the inn until we harvest garlic.

Thank you to Gail, Abigail, and Birch for coming out this week.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all who have come out to help us during our time of need..Transition Lab, Tomten, Farm, Buckhorn Gardens; Geoff, Claire, Pheobe and all our wonderful volunteers; AND all our CSA members who heard our call. Words cannot describe how very fortunate and blessed we feel to have such a wonderful group of folks in our farm's family and community.

Updates on our little birdie friends. Coral's eggs started pipping Sunday and were all hatched out by Monday evening. Coral is a VERY proud mama of 9 little goslings!! They are 3 days old and already growing like weeds!! Pumpkin decided he was the proud papa and was strutting around handing out cigars!! All the geese are very proud and are all "helping" to take care of the new babies. Poor babies have 12 parents!! Lucy, the other goose who was nesting abandoned her nest when Coral decided to use it for her new family. Luckily Della noticed in time to rescue the eggs before they got too cold.{one was already starting to pip. So we are hatching them in the house. We had one gosling all hatched out at 4 am this morning and 4 or 5 more that are starting to pip. Hopefully they will be all hatched out by morning. Mom has been baby sitting the one gosling that is hatched today. We went in to check on them and they were both fast asleep in Mom's chair.

Duckies are all doing well.. Della's 3 setting ladies are hanging in there!! According to her calendar they should be startin to hatch sometime next week.

Baby chickies will be 16 weeks old on Monday.. The new babies will be about  13 weeks old on Tuesday. Mom and Della got them moved down to their new home the other night.

note: we do have chicken and duck eggs for sale here at the farm..chicken eggs are $4.00 and Duck eggs are $6.00. Just give us a call..249-9725..to pick some

work days we can set up time for you to get your work commitment in during the week..Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday work best for us..anytime from 6am to noon. We will have Sunday workdays again in the fall after the frost.

We still have a few shares available..of special note..I have a gentleman who would like to purchase a share for a family in need..so please touch base with me Saturday if you can help us out.

What is available for the CSA?

This is my best guess of what we will be harvesting this week. The next couple of weeks the shares may be a bit light..we are transitioning from cool season crops to warm season goodies

NOTE:For food safety..our veggies are not ready to eat..we "chill" or hydro-cool them to get the field heat out but they are not washed!! Please wash them before you eat them!!

From the tunnel

Swiss chard

fava beans

From outdoors

sugar snap peas last of the season

english peas..maybe a few more next week

salad greens

garlic scapes

and more herbs

Fun happening.. Jen McGruther..one of your fellow CSA members has written a cookbook..Nourished Kitchen..it is awesome..great pictures..tasty recipes..I will try to remember to bring our copy out for you all to look at it!!

Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday!!
