Happy Springtime in the Rockies!!!

First veggies pickup of the 2017 season is next Saturday April 8th..9:00 am to noon!! I am making my list and checking it twice..if you are not on my list we won't be harvesting any of our awesome veggies for you on Friday!! So please go to the website to sign up for our CSA and get on my list!!  www.circleagarden.com   I will be finalizing the first weeks list on Thursday morning..any signups after that will need to wait until the following week to pick up veggies..thanks

Tomorrow is the first of April..no foolin'!! And it has been a springtime in the rockies week!! Saturday we had sun early..then clouds, but no rain until late night..my nice gentle overnight rain..Sunday we had clouds and hail then some sun..Monday was one of those days where we didn't know whether it was going to rain or shine..another nice gentle overnight rain..Tuesday was and Wednesday were both on and off days..Thursday started out cloudy and cool but was sunny and warm about mid-morning..cloudy later and today was off and on. Temps have been cooler..highs mostly in the 50-60's lows in the mid 30's, Looks like this will continue until mid-week.

Spring continues..lilac buds are getting bigger..I don't think they are going to be as spectacular as they were last year..way fewer buds. Apricots..well I don't think they got frozen yet but that hail on Sunday knocked a lot of stuff off the trees..can't tell if they have set any fruit yet..they are way up in the tree and I can't see that far!! Rhubarb and lovage are just shooting up..I think they have both grown a foot this week!! Willows are blooming..and a disturbing number of weeds are popping up all over!!

The high tunnel is definitely looking tasty!! It looks like we will have swiss chard, kale, bok choi, yakina savoy, tokyo bekana, mustards, fava greens, radishes, salad greens, arugula, chives, and oregano for our first harvest. This week we transplanted the last succession of greens and seeded radishes, salad and beta greens, arugula, and some more of that baby pak choi. Today I transplanted another 100 lettuces..I just have about 50 to go. We have also gotten some weeding done off and on..plan on doing more the next few days.

Terry moved 20 more flats of transplants over to the honey house..and we transplanted about 10 flats into the high tunnel..unfortunately I have managed to fill all that space back up!!..I managed to turn 3 seedling flats into 20 flats of transplants!! As soon as it warms back up this next week we need to kick a bunch of stuff out onto the hardening off bench..some perennial herbsand alliums..maybe the artichokes and kohlrabi. Then I think we will move all the nightshades..peppers, tomatoes, and eggplant to the prophouse where I can keep them warmer if it decides to get cold. Then maybe I'll have room for more trays..broccoli,cauliflower, and lettuces are next on my list..with marigolds and basil not far behind!! Started peppers and eggplant for the great outdoors..I know I started 4 new seedling flats..but I can't remember what they were!! Sometimes I feel like the little od woman in the shoe!!

Outdoor adventures this week were all about getting peas planted, fertilizing the last of the currants and getting them all staked up for the season. This next week I need to start thinking about pruning black raspberries, weeding and fertilizing the rhubarb, and getting beds prepped for alliums..there's only about 5,000 or so of them to plant!! Some of that may end up on hold for a week..the weather is supposed to be cloudy and cool so need to spend it in the tunnel..and we need to get organized for our first harvest and veggie pickup!!

If you haven't checked out the website or our facebook group, please do..it is so cool!! We would like feedback as well!!  www.circleagarden.com  there is a link to facebook on the homepage.

I am in search of interns, a couple more work share folks, and volunteers for the coming season..if you know anyone who might be interested please have them call me{970-249-9725..ask for Betsy}
