Happy Almost Spring!!

Note: First Veggie Pickup of the 2018 season will be Saturday, April 7th...9 am to noon!!!! That's 5 short weeks away..if you are not signed up yet..it's time!!!

Can you believe it is March already? Time has just been flying!!. Do you suppose some of it is that I am still waiting for winter? We haven't had much of a winter so far..maybe a bit last week when we got almost 3 inches of snow and the daytime temps didn't quite get up to 32 degrees!! We did get a couple of storms early February..rain/snow mix that melted off fairly rapidly..but mostly we had lots of bright shiny days. So far, March has been nice and sunny..not to mention windy..off nd on the last couple days if it wasn't nailed down, it is somewhere down Delta way!! Looks like we have another little bit of storm coming through later this evening. We are still worried about water..even though our mountains have gotten some snow pack over the last month it hasn't been enough..that snow pack is our water for the coming summer. We have several young farmer friends who are trying to figure out what they are going to do if we don't get a bit more moisture.

We have a new addition to our farm this season..Alex is our young farmer..she hails from Oregon{where it actually rains!!}..she has been an intern here several seasons, but this is her first year to see it all happen from beginning to end!! She has already given us a huge lift with her experience and enthusiasm!! Please help us welcome her!!!

Terry, Alex, our work share folks, Mom and I have been busy the last 6 weeks or so. We have been starting seeds, getting the tunnel ready for planting, planting the tunnel, starting more seed, pruning trees and shrubs, getting space ready for peas, working on setting up new herb beds and much more!!

The high tunnel is getting full!! So far we have seeded beets, carrots, turnips fava beans, beta greens, arugula, a baby pak choi, and radishes. We have transplanted all sorts of greens; swiss chard, kale, mustards, bok choi, orach, and more. We also have planted lettuces and celtuce. Everything is looking great..the carrots are even up!!

Outdoors we have been busy pruning trees and shrubs..we have 3 currants and the blackberries left to go on the shrubby things and  9 or 10 trees left to go. We are in the process of moving herb beds around..this is a multi year project..we are aiming to get 4 done this spring..Terry has been working on them. Alex and the work share folks have been working on getting the pea patch ready to go and digging a bazillion cottonwood roots. All of us have been working on pruning projects.

We are 5 short weeks out from our first veggie pickup of the 2018 season. Please get signed up so you can enjoy a season of many different farm fresh veggies every week April-November. Please go to www.circleagarden.com   If you have any questions or concerns please call me of an evening{970-249-9725} or shoot me an e-mail,, circlea@skybeam.com

Food for thought.. Question of the month..sooo..what can each of you do to help conserve water??

Work days for March..every Saturday..9 am to noon..projects for March include tree pruning, weeding and mulching rhubarb, getting beds ready for alliums. cabbages, and kohlrabi..give me a call 970-249-9725 to set up a day and time!!

Hope you are all enjoying winter{??}!!

Looking forward to seeing all of you soon

Betsy, Terry, Alex, Jeanne, and all of us here at Circle A
