CSA Veggie Pickup Reminder

Posted 5/4/2018 5:17pm by Betsy Austin.

Happy May!!

Note:  Veggie Pickup will be this coming Saturday...9 am to noon

If you don't get on my list for this week, please go to the website and sign up, you will be on my list for next week!! www.circleagarden.com

The weather the last few weeks has been nothing if not changeable!!   Nice warm days with abundant sun changing to chilly, cloudy days to wind days to bits of snowy to rain. We did get a couple of my nice gentle overnight rains but not really enough rain to help much. Wednesday and Thursday this week were cold and cloudy..our "wall" from Colona to the hanging tree seems to be well in place...it rained{with some snow}well on south of Colona ..and on north of the hanging tree..but we just had some intermittent drops here on the farm..maybe enough to wet the surface of the soil!! Today though it has been nice and sunny and warming up well.

The landscape in the high tunnel is starting to change..spring greens are making way for tomatoes and cucumbers this week..favas are about knee high and growing rapidly..and blooming their fool heads off. Still have lots of early goodies but it is a good thing some of them are going home with you all..tomatoes are getting too tall to fit in the window in the greenhouse!~!

Outdoors, Alex and Terry are getting a lot of stuff planted out..we now have peas, favas, cabbage, kohlrabi, more greens, lettuces, celtice, beets, carrots, turnips, radishes, and something close to 5,000 alliums so far!! Some of the fruit trees are still blooming strong..I a, not seeing any apricots..an occasional nanking cherry, currants are still blooming and setting fruit, apples pears and plums are still blooming..I don't see any fruit set yet, but I am hoping!!

We will still be taking sign ups for the CSA until we fill up. Please get signed up so you can enjoy a season of many different farm fresh veggies every week April-November. Please go to www.circleagarden.com   If you have any questions or concerns please call me of an evening{970-249-9725} or shoot me an e-mail,, circlea@skybeam.com

Fun happenings lilacs are starting to bloom..not as spectacularly as the year Della passed, but better than some years, raspberries are starting to grow, blackberries are barely starting to leaf out, grass is green, birds are starting to mest, frogs are singing.

New addition to the farm is Millie..she is Alex's baby goat..cute as a bug..growing almost as fast as the weeds..a very comic addition to the farm!!

Food for thought.. Question of the month..sooo..what can each of you do to help conserve water?? Getting a few good comments on our facebook page..please add your thoughts. From my perspective as a farmer I know I cannot grow food without water..we all need food to survive.we also need clean water to drink..sooo....lets go a little deeper with our thinking..what is more important..food to eat and water to drink..or ?????

Work days .give me a call 970-249-9725 to set up a day and time!!

What is available for the CSA?

This is my best guess on Thursday what we will have at pick up,,sometimes the veggies just aren't quite ready when we go to harvest on Friday.

don't forget to check the website for recipes..also check our facebook page for fun things that our members have done with their goodies!!

Food safety.. we do not consider any of our produce to be ready to eat..we "chill" it in cool water to get the field heat out but recommend that you wash it before eating.

from the tunnel; swiss chard, kale, bok choi,  tokyo bekana, orach, mustards, red rain, gunsho,  lettuces. radishes, salad turnips, salad greens, arugula, the first few baby carrots and beet greens, chives, spring onions.

From the great out of doors; rhubarb, a few leeks left fro winter,  and lovage

Note; we will have eggs again this season from Darcy and Don Arnold, our friends over at Lower 48 Farm,

Hope you are all ready to enjoy spring!!

Looking forward to seeing all of you on Saturday!!!

Betsy, Terry, Alex, Jeanne, and all of us here at Circle A
